WHAT ARE THE HOUND BREEDS OF DOGS
Hound breeds are a group of dogs originally bred to track and hunt animals. Their primary strength is finding game either by smell or by sight, rather than following human commands as closely as some other working breeds.
1. Scent Hounds
These dogs use their powerful noses to follow scent trails over long distances.
Examples:
Beagle – Friendly, energetic, and famous for tracking rabbits.
Bloodhound – Has one of the best senses of smell of any dog.
Basset Hound – Short legs, long ears, and excellent scent-tracking ability.
Coonhound – Bred to track raccoons and other game.
2. Sight Hounds
These dogs hunt by using their keen eyesight and incredible speed to chase prey.
Examples:
Greyhound – One of the fastest dog breeds, reaching speeds of about 45 mph (72 km/h).
Whippet – Smaller than a Greyhound but also very fast.
Saluki – An ancient breed known for speed and endurance.
Afghan Hound – Elegant, with a long silky coat and strong hunting instincts.
